Kelly Clarkson isn’t backing down after publicly calling out Brooklyn store Art of Play over an unpleasant shopping experience. Yesterday, the singer claimed she was treated rudely while visiting the store and inquiring about purchasing an item. Art of Play subsequently issued a statement explaining that Clarkson had asked about “Molly,” a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton used in the store’s magic shows, which they claimed was permanently attached to the wall and not for sale. The store also addressed the backlash, saying it was surprised to find itself the target of widespread outrage following Clarkson’s comments, while expressing hope that the situation could eventually be resolved. Now, Clarkson is pushing back on the store’s version of events, alleging that the item had a $15,000 price tag displayed on the wall and that an employee explicitly told her it was available for purchase before offering to help her find something more affordable. Adding another layer to the dispute, an image circulating online appears to show a $15,000 price tag beside the item in question, seemingly contradicting the store’s claim that it was never for sale.
