“Vestige de hier soir à La Distillerie N°2 sur Mont-Royal" is a three piece conceptual work that revolves around the interaction of sound, space, and remembrance. It explores the blurred lines between conventional art forms and the nature of nightlife, while having both a very strong personal and collective memory attached to the work. It's a reminder that beauty can be found in chaos, where each visible stain and splash serves as a brushstroke or pencil scratch capturing memories produced over the course of the night.
At its core, the piece celebrates the short-lived vibrancy of nightlife, where laughter blends with music and clinking glasses composing a chaotic environment. Remove the sounds of the bar—the laughter, the chatter, the music—and suddenly, the spills from the drinks
seem to lose their significance. Though the spills are unintentional; they're the drawing itself, each one telling a story of a night well spent.
“Vestige de hier soir à La Distillerie N°2 sur Mont-Royal" is also a reference to the beloved bar I have been employed at for the past two years. I see this place as my family, a second home, which is now sadly closing its doors. As I say goodbye to the
@distillerie and embark on a new chapter in my life, this work also serves as a tribute to the memories I've made and a symbol of the ever-changing nature of working in a bar. I’d like to believe that it captures the passage of time not only of the night but to my experience in this warm and welcoming place. Though we cannot physically hear the happenings of the night, I can’t help but feel nostalgic, while still preserving the essence of a place that holds a profound significance in my heart. ♥️
