Confucius (551–479 BCE) was a Chinese philosopher whose teachings emphasized moral character, self-discipline, respect, and ethical behavior.

His ideas were preserved by his followers in The Analects and became enormously influential throughout East Asia.

Interestingly, Confucius didn't believe that hatred was always wrong. In The Analects (4.3), he suggested that a truly virtuous person was capable of both loving and hating others.

For him, the important distinction was whether those feelings came from sound moral judgment rather than personal resentment.
