On Monday, we said goodbye to my beautiful grandmother, Doris Farney, at 95 years old. 🤍

Some people leave a mark on your life so deep that you cannot separate who you are from the way they loved you. My grandmother was one of those people.

Her love was unconditional. I never had to earn it. She gave it freely, through her kindness, her care, and a lifetime of thinking about what she could do for someone else. Beyond that she taught me to fish for catfish with red licorice and shoot a shotgun without bruising my shoulder. 😊

At the center of it all was her deep faith in God. It was evident in everything she did…in the way she cared for people, faced hardship, and kept giving of herself. She made God’s love tangible to me. I could see it in her life, and I could feel it in the way she loved me.

She grew up during the Great Depression and knew how hard life could be. Yet she kept her gentle heart. Through all she endured, she lived with beauty and grace, trusting God and continuing to love.

And she was stubborn. Oh, so beautifully full of GRACE and GRIT.

I recognize that determined spirit in myself, the resilience, the willingness to keep going when life gets hard. When I reach for strength, I know some of what I find was handed down by her.

She showed me that faith can sustain you through what you cannot understand. That you can carry sorrow and still have love to give. That a gentle woman can also be an incredibly strong one.

Grandma, thank you for loving me so completely. Thank you for showing me what a life rooted in faith, kindness, and service can look like. Being your granddaughter will always be one of the great gifts of my life.

I believe you are resting now in the presence of the God you trusted so deeply. That brings me comfort, even as I wish I could have more time with you.

I will miss you. And I will carry you with me, in faith, in kindness, in resilience, and yes, in a little stubbornness, too.

I love you so deeply Grandma. Always. 💗💗💗
