It’s been a while between ‘these’ posts, but today was an appointment with the RAH Hepobilliary Fellow, Dr Wong - yes, a new face as Dr Han has gone to Sydney as a research resource.
The difference was rolling in in the M-B, feeling at peace with myself and the world, regardless of outcome.
Anyway, with CT scan output and blood tests in hand we had a candid and insightful discussion around where my health is at.
I guess that it is fair to say I’m going to be here 🌍 a while longer, but don’t try to sell me an extended warranty 🤣
The good thing is that the undiagnosed mass that appeared after the Whipples Procedure has decreased in size, not significantly but that is the opposite of the expectation of a cancerous growth.
That’s good.
The blood tests were all over the place, with deficiencies here and there, some high spots that need to be addressed, and a lot of normalcy.
That’s also good.
His final overview was that I seem to have healed really well from the surgery, and that I look OK from a physiological perspective … and the rest of the discussion is in the hands of my oncologist, Mt Tahar, next Wednesday.
My mind goes back to an early conversation with him, when he laid it out for me without sugar coating.
“There is no real cure for pancreatic cancer, and that is a given. But there is time, and time is something that we can extend - quality time is the goal”
I liked the sound of that.
And it is working at the moment.
But the 5 year survival rate is still only 1 to 5%, however maybe I’m to be one of the 5% 🤷♂️
