SIXERS BEAT BULLS TO IMPROVE TO 7-1 😤
The witch your daughter dressed as this Halloween was a healer. Between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, tens of thousands of people were executed for witchcraft across Europe, around eighty percent of them women, and among them were the village midwives and herbalists. Her cauldron was a pot of medicine. Then the medical schools opened, to men. Hysteria stayed a diagnosis until 1980, women were excluded from clinical trials until 1993, and today women still wait longer for pain relief in emergency departments. They tried to burn the healers out of history. She is standing on your doorstep. ❤️ Happy Halloween. Tag someone who loves it, hates it, or wonders where it all began. #halloween #womenshealth #history #women #drjonny
Years ago while flipping through a book, I came across a picture of a painting that I fell instantly in love with. It was called “Cats Being Instructed in the Art of Mouse-Catching” and was by an unknown artist from the Lombard School dated around 1700. I took a picture of the page, and have carried it around on my phone ever since. Every time I scroll across it, it gives me this tiny little moment of pure delight at its absolute absurdist strangeness. This piece is a Mabbish tribute to the Mysterious Unknown Artist, whom I have formally adopted as my great-great-great-great-great godfather. I love imagining what people at the time thought of this piece. Did they love it? Did they dismiss it as silliness? This piece will be a part of the Glimmer show by @beautifulbizarremagazine hosted at @moderneden on November 7th. #mabgraves #beautifulbizarremagazine #popsurrealism #oilpainting #glimmershow Material info: this piece was painted in oils on wood Image description: a host of strange cats gathers around a book that looks like music, but we see that the notes are mice. The cats all sing and play strange instruments in what we can only imagine as a cacophony of noise. An owl turns the pages with a stern look on his face.
