“At the end of the day, I actually don’t think about Haley Stevens,” Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed said Sunday when asked whether the congresswoman had betrayed her party by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers. El-Sayed pushed back on questions about the political rift, asking reporters to concentrate on the challenges facing Michigan residents. “I’m not in the business of driving clicks for you. I’m in the business of trying to solve problems for the people in my state,” he said. He outlined priorities including affordable health care, stronger schools and relief from high household costs, while reaffirming his support for Medicare for All. “I want to get money out of politics. I want to put money back in pockets,” he said. Turning to foreign policy, El-Sayed took aim at “the Trump administration that has taken us to this war in Iran.” He argued that the conflict was increasing gas and grocery costs while drawing tax dollars away from communities at home. “We don’t want to watch our tax dollars get spent somewhere else on a war we shouldn’t be fighting. We want our tax dollars spent here on schools here,” he said.
