Israeli opposition leader Avigdor Liberman has launched an attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of supporting Palestinian statehood. The dispute erupted after Liberman proposed that Jordan assume security responsibility for Areas A and B of the West Bank, arguing that the Palestinian Authority had failed. Netanyahu criticized the proposal and accused Liberman of moving to the left. Liberman responded by citing Netanyahu’s 2009 Bar-Ilan speech, where Netanyahu endorsed a demilitarized Palestinian state under conditions, and released a video highlighting his past remarks. The exchange comes ahead of Israel’s October 27, 2026, parliamentary election. The claims reflect campaign rhetoric.
