2 years agoOh and one other thought...anything we think of, create, has already been thought of, created, happened , will happen or is happening. It is all there, always has been, always will be. 😉
2 years agoWell said. I think that the point of painting or creating is to do that - create. What makes the creation art is really just someone else's opinion about the creative outcome. Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. We have evolved beyond creating imagery to tell a story, glorify religion, history, rulers, record the natural or man made world. I think it is more important to focus on creativity than whether or not a "final product" is art. I am a fan of many styles, genres and periods of painting. I can get lost in the lusciuosness of a John Singer Seargant as easily as I can in Diebenkorn abstract. I do not have to like what someone creates, but I try to be respectful of their creativity.
2 years agoI think what I don’t like at the moment is that anyone seems to be able to create a half decent ‘abstract’ which somehow makes them less meaningful. How is this happening?!
2 years agoI love these bike trip thoughts and the openness of your question. For me, it comes back to "what continues to move me" (after the initial intoxication of discovering something new...) sometimes I find the "idea" of something is very persuasive (Warhol and Rauchenberg spring to mind), but the experience of the actual thing that they create leaves me cold. Some other things go on affecting us long after we discover them....
2 years agoI am enjoying getting into abstraction myself. I’m a printmaker and love graphic images- abstraction gives me a new freedom to just let my results fade away and my own creativity come out. Good for the soul.
