Mike's work with paint, collage and found materials is a reflection of his rich life thanks to his 3 boys, family, friends and bullmastiff (UK/I/CZ)

Found objects series, 30th October 2026. Found this beauty in the Moravian village of Tršice on my way home from work. It fits well with my love for Central / Eastern European Brutalism accompanied by “Cortechs” a German dark techno artist, performing since 2010. #brutalism #contemporary_art #foundobjectart #esson by @essonart

With this collage I veered away from bold colours and ripped up old calendars while rubbing terpentine in them to give the image a faded, aged look. #collage_art #kolaž #essonart #contemporary_art by @essonart

Originally from the UK, I have made a life for myself in the former Eastern Block, now part of Central Europe (politically) and the Brutalist Art and Architecture has had quite an influence on my artwork. Western Europe isn’t devoid of Brutalism of course but in countries easy of the former Iron Curtain, these concrete monsters really come in to their own. Superb exhibition of Anish Kapoor’s creepy, disturbing and mind blowing artwork at London’s Hayward gallery. Only a few days left in case you want to catch it. Totally worth it #anishkapoor #contemporaryart #esson #londonartscene by @essonart

Mixed media piece in homage to Mark E Smith and The Fall who accompanied me through many a night in the studio #abstract_collage #contemporaryfineart #collage_curator #esson by @essonart

This still life was completed at my Czech studio but is dedicated to my fine chapter studying fine art and art history in Birmingham, UK. I admired (still do) abstract and figurative artists, ie De Kooning, Diebenkorn to Hockney, Bacon and Kitaj. This piece has whiffs from all these artists #british_artist #still_life #contemporary_art #esson by @essonart

This mixed media piece is inspired by my Guatemalan chapter in Huehuetenango. This part of the world belongs in my heart as beautiful, heart warming, majestic and sometimes tragic #southamericanart #essonart #artecontemporânea #abstraktkunst by @essonart

This collage resulted from a diversion from paint where I enjoyed the more stark colours and sharper edges. There are references to Diebenkorn although his work had more horizontal swathes / blocks of colour in a landscape setting. #abstrakcja #essonart #collage_community #artecontemporáneo by @essonart

This is half painting half collage where I rub white spirit on to glossy calendar images which lifts off the colour creating aged faded effect #mixedmediacollage #abstractcollage #artecontemporáneo #esson by @essonart

These pieces are soft pencil, charcoal and black water colours on paper. Like the majority of artists, it’s liberating to get back to basics #pencildrawing #abstract_post #abstractdrawing #esson #abstrakcja by @essonart

Another of my “Ministry” influenced pieces coinciding with the end of the COVID period where, despite spending hours a day exploring the forest with my 7 year old, was a period of uncertainty and domestic upheaval to say the least #abstract_buff #arteabstrata #esson #czechart by @essonart

This piece was produced under the influence of Ministry, an industrial metal band from Chicago who found themselves in our dear capital city Prague. I rarely use headphones these days, just vivid memories #morbid_art #abstractionism #essonart #esson #artecontemporáneo by @essonart
