Your internet connection is about to become more expensive as rates will be increased soon... Motilal Oswal is predicting a 15% price increase by December, and even The Economist, both are predicting a rise in internet rates in India because of the Jio IPO... and there is solid reasoning behind it... Currently, Jio has the largest market share of 39%... Airtel has 38%... Vodafone Idea has 15%... and BSNL has 7%... And after listing, companies have the pressure to deliver at least a 15% increase in revenue every year... Since Jio already has the largest number of users... it’s hard for them to onboard more users... so the other easy lever for them becomes price increase... And look at the logic of the price increase too... Currently, Jio’s customers pay Rs 214 per month, out of which they get about 44 GB of data... which is less than Rs 5 per GB... This price is less than 1/3rd of the industry average in India when you look at other players... And anyone who wanted to switch over from Airtel or VI to Jio for cheaper internet has probably already done it... So the easiest lever for Jio to pull is to start increasing rates, while still being the cheapest provider... The question will be on what all AI features will be sold to Jio users to justify the price increase... because the other businesses currently contribute about 20% to Jio’s overall businesses, and some cross selling should ideally come in. #casarthakahuja
