50 kilometres. 5 hours and 5 minutes. And I don’t think I stopped smiling for even 5 seconds of it. ❤️

Five hours of running, laughing, chatting, high-fiving new friends, cheering each other on, and doing something I absolutely love with a bunch of incredibly inspiring, fit, dedicated, crazy humans.

14 months ago, I was in one of the darkest places of my life. Quite literally broken, lying on a hospital bed, terrified of what was ahead and wondering what my body would be capable of again.

And here I am. Running 50km. How incredible is that?

I’ve had a long and complicated relationship with my body. Growing up as a dancer in the ’80s and ‘90s, we weren’t exactly taught how to nourish and care for these extraordinary instruments. We were taught to be small, make beautiful lines, and push through.

And while I love the dancer I was and the dancer I still am, I’m learning a different way to appreciate my body. Not for how it looks, but for what it can DO.

Since Sydney Marathon six weeks ago, I’ve worked hard on my strength training, nutrition and recovery. Learning to listen to my body, look after it, and give it what it needs to do these ridiculous things I love asking of it.

My relationship with my body will always be evolving. It’s been strong, broken, resilient, frustrating, and extraordinary. I’m learning to be a little kinder to it along the way.

I’m so proud of this strong, capable, imperfect body of mine. And even prouder of the strength of spirit inside of me that just keeps showing up.

If this past year has taught me anything, it’s to be kind to your body. It’s the only one you’ve got, and it’s pretty amazing what it can do when you give it a little love.

What a gift to spend five hours feeling so completely, ridiculously HAPPY. ❤️

Mustard plaster (poultice) 💛
for congestion and sore muscles.
.
Equal parts ground mustard and flour-
Enough water for a pancake batter consistency-
fold into a cloth.
-IMPORTANT TO USE:
You need a barrier between your skin and the cloth, (tallow, olive oil, coconut oil) lather your chest, back or muscle well before laying cloth over - now you need heat (a blanket works) but a heating pad, salt sock or rice sock works better. do not leave in one spot for longer than 20min as this will cause deep blood flow and can cause blisters. If using on children- reduce amount on cloth and check every 5 minutes (remove once skin starts to flush)
Redness is normal! Means it’s working 😉
Be well!❤️
