Man, we’re in a weird time.

I’ll tell you a story.

There’s a bloke (let’s call him me) who’s betting everything he has on building a coffee company.

I work hard to build a business that can pay 21 people, our suppliers and partners and NEVER miss a payment. Ever. We do things the right way.

I’m also trying to find new ways to grow the business, while inspiring and educating fellow coffee truck people.

In the process, I design and market a Coffee Truck Masterclass that can teach loads of folks what I know and earn us some extra revenue. I’m SUPER excited.

But here’s the thing. I’m terrible at graphic design, and I want to do a nice job of the event flyer.

So I use a professional photo of my truck that I paid a local photographer for, and ask AI to put some title graphics on it. The flyer looks great (I thought).

Then something weird happens.

I get random folks sending me DMs and comments saying how disappointed they are in me for using AI on my poster.

They say I’m a better marketer than this, and they’d sooner unfollow me than see me use AI. One person even said I’m not the same guy they’ve followed for years. Man, who would have thought poster title graphics would change me as a person!

Look, everyone is free to say whatever they want - that I don’t care about.

What bothers me is people sliding into my DMs with the sole goal of taking the bounce out of my step. There’s no gain other than make me feel stupid and cheap.

It’s titles on an event flyer peeps. If you think it’s naff, just scroll past it. But please don’t make me feel stupid.

Building a business is hard. Finding ways to teach people what I know and earn some extra money is hard too.

What isn’t hard is sending cynical messages, bursting the bubble of people just trying their best.

Cheers to everyone that’s cheering me on while I try something new with this event. And MASSIVE thanks to those who bought a ticket to attend the masterclass.

It’s gonna be so much fun…even with AI titles on the flyer.

It’s tough in the arena. But if you’re not in there fighting and up in the seats - cheer, don’t throw rocks.

Ant x

All the gorgeous books I’ve received from ESEA authors 🙌

I’ve already read one, strange pictures, which I love, and which is now out in paperback.

So excited to have the new murakami and also a serving of hope, which is the 4th book in the kamogawa food detective series which is also a favourite! Also Winter of the bride, new bora chung as well as all the rest. Not sure where to start!

Which book catches your eye?

@foxla covered my stabbing but left out 80% of what I said to make a story about me being betrayed. I appreciate it but I’m not just a “social media activist”.. I’ve spent over a year documenting protests, movements, and the voices of everyday Angelenos. I’ve interviewed MAGA supporters and people on all sides because I don’t believe anyone should be hated for their racial, religious, or political background. What the segment didn’t mention: what organization the alleged attackers were a part of, my message about coming together, or the bulk of what I actually said. They even twisted what I said about snitch jacketing. But I told my story and I stand by it. I’ll be back out there once I recover
