When I told my mom I was having a baby, she said, “why?”
My mom had twin boys 5 years before I was born.
They died days after they were prematurely delivered into this world.
She still can’t really talk about the loss she felt.
She can’t really talk about how she truly feels about anything.
That doesn’t mean she won’t share her opinions however.
“Why have kids now?”
“This world is so messed up.”
“Plus you can’t do what you wanna do anymore.”
“I sure wouldn’t do it.”
I was already scared of becoming a mother. Now I knew my mom wasn’t going to be the rock I’d fantasized she’d be.
That broke my heart.
My mom supported me nevertheless.
She sent boxes of cloth diapers, tons of baby clothes, and things my daughter wouldn’t need for months.
And that’s how I know she loves me.
She’s always delivered the things I wanted and needed. Sometimes before I could even really want it.
But asking for her open heart…?
My mother’s wounds have become my wounds.
-And that’s really ok.
Because I am ready to heal them for us.
The suffering ends now.
She doesn’t always understand me.
She’s not all that interested in what I’m passionate about.
But I know she loves me.
She hasn’t shown me all of her scars.
Like a good mother, she’s never made her past pain my burden to bear.
But I know my mother suffers.
All mothers suffer.
But it is not required of us to stay in the suffering.
I am transmuting that pain into pleasure.
I don’t respond to the pressures my mother or the world’s conditioning mishappenly places on me.
I refuse to play small because I chose to stay home with my child.
I will not accept anything less than abundance and freedom for me and my family.
My life will be a testament to my devotion to my mother and the Great Mother of us all.
The healing of the sisterhood will be my legacy.
If you are done suffering motherhood
or your mother
I’d love to connect with you.
DM me a friendly greeting and we’ll chat.
