🍁 Maple brown sugar cookies with maple icing 🤎

Soft, buttery, chewy, maple-filled cookies. The perfect cozy fall bake to enjoy with your favourite coffee! ☕️🍂

COOKIE INGREDIENTS

* 2⅓ cups (292g) all-purpose flour, spooned and levelled
* 1 tsp baking soda
* ¼ tsp salt
* ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
* 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
* 1 large egg, room temperature
* ⅓ cup (80ml) pure maple syrup

MAPLE ICING (OPTIONAL)

* 2 tbsp (28g) unsalted butter
* ⅓ cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
* 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar
* Pinch of salt, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
2. In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until combined. Mix in the egg and maple syrup.
3. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
4. Cover and chill the dough for at least 3 hours, or ideally overnight. The dough is naturally sticky because of the maple syrup, so chilling is important!
5. Once chilled, let the dough sit out briefly to soften just enough to work with. Divide into portions and roll into balls, handling the dough as little as possible. Make them whatever size you prefer! I made mine into larger cookies.
6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–13 minutes, or until the edges are set. Allow the cookies to cool.
7. For the icing, melt the butter and maple syrup together in a saucepan. Remove from the heat, then whisk in the sifted confectioners’ sugar and a pinch of salt until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cookies.

A FEW TIPS 🤎

* Don’t skip chilling the dough! It makes it much easier to handle.
* Work quickly when rolling your cookies, as the dough becomes sticky as it warms up.
* The maple icing is optional, but adds an extra touch of sweetness and maple flavour!

Save this for your next cozy fall baking day! 🍁☕️
