Book Review 📖 Title: Dead in the Water Author: John Marrs Genre: Psychological Thriller Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ John Marrs is usually an author I can count on to pull me into a story, so I was curious to see where this one would take me. Unfortunately, Dead in the Water didn’t quite leave the impression I was hoping for. The story follows Damon, who nearly drowns during a swimming challenge with his ex-wife, Melissa. After being revived, he starts seeing dead people, including a young boy he can’t remember. Desperate for answers, Damon comes up with a plan to die and be brought back so he can figure out what’s happening to him. Because apparently, one near-death experience wasn’t enough. 😭 The premise had me interested, especially the mystery surrounding the boy and how the different characters might connect. However, as the story progressed, the twists became increasingly difficult for me to buy into. I also struggled to connect with the characters. Although their roles in the mystery kept me curious, I never felt invested enough in their individual stories to care as much as I wanted to. With so much happening, I found myself more focused on figuring out the twists than actually connecting with the people at the centre of them. My biggest disappointment was that I kept reading to find out how everything would end, but the payoff just didn’t make the journey worthwhile for me. I know plenty of readers have enjoyed this one, but sadly, it was a forgettable read for me. I’ll still be picking up John Marrs’ books, though! ❤️ QOTD: If you could come back to life with answers to one question about death, would you be willing to die to find out? 👀 #bookstagram #deadinthewater #johnmarrs #bookreview #booksbooksbooks
