Was it worth it? British adventurer Karl Bushby has finally returned to British soil after spending 28 years traveling around the world on foot. The 57-year-old former paratrooper began his journey in Chile in November 1998 and has since covered more than 31,000 miles across 29 countries. His journey included crossing the frozen Bering Strait, surviving dangerous jungles, and even swimming across the English Channel. He arrived in England on October 5, 2026, but still has roughly 250 miles left to walk before reaching his hometown of Hull. But there’s another side to this incredible achievement. Bushby left behind a young son when he started his expedition and now has a granddaughter he reportedly hasn’t met. What was originally supposed to take 12 years turned into nearly three decades of missed family milestones, visa complications, and extraordinary determination. Some see one of the greatest endurance achievements in modern history, while others question whether any adventure is worth that much time away from family.
Speaking at Jio Platforms’ IPO press conference in Mumbai on Thursday, October 15, she recalled how a simple internet connectivity problem during a college break in 2009-10 sparked a conversation that would eventually help transform India’s digital landscape. Isha shared that she and her twin brother Akash Ambani were studying in the United States when they returned home to Mumbai for a break. While trying to submit a college assignment online, she discovered that the internet was not working. The experience made the siblings question why India lacked the kind of reliable internet connectivity they enjoyed abroad. According to Isha, Akash believed the solution was to build a digital technology platform capable of addressing India’s connectivity challenges. What began as a conversation at home gradually developed into a much bigger vision. That vision became a reality in September 2016 when Reliance Jio commercially launched its telecom services, introducing free voice calls and promotional data offerings that helped make mobile internet more accessible and affordable for millions of Indians. Jio’s entry also intensified competition in the telecom industry, contributing to a significant decline in mobile data prices and a surge in internet consumption across the country. Reflecting on the journey from 2009-10 to 2026, Isha highlighted Reliance’s philosophy of long-term thinking, scale and execution. She also remembered her grandfather Dhirubhai Ambani, who took Reliance Industries public in 1977, and reiterated the family’s commitment to his vision of enabling Indians to participate in the country’s economic growth. The revelation comes as Jio Platforms prepares for its much-awaited IPO, scheduled to open on October 21, with a potential issue size of ₹30,213 crore, making it India’s largest public offering if fully subscribed at the upper price band. Nearly 17 years after a failed assignment submission triggered a conversation about India’s digital future, the company that emerged from that vision is preparing for a historic stock market debut.
