three months ago, I was in an accident that turned my world upside down. literally. the uber I was in rolled over on the expressway and in that moment, I thought I was going to die.

although i walked away with minimal physical injuries, the mental battle was just beginning. I didn’t trust my body anymore and I moved through life with fear. so I didn’t run for five weeks, which isn’t exactly ideal in the middle of a marathon training cycle.

I started questioning whether I should even run this marathon. maybe i should just defer it again but I tried my best to give myself grace, take things one day at a time and slowly build my mileage back up. I also shifted my focus from chasing a time goal to making my 10th marathon a celebration of life.

but the marathon will always remind you to respect the distance. I started off feeling strong, but as the pain kicked in, so did the flashbacks and self-doubt. My mind went back to the moment in the last slide. I decided to focus on making it to the cheer stations and drawing energy from the people I saw along the course. I kept reminding myself that even though i’m still not 100% after the accident, I am strong, capable and safe.

I fought hard to get to that finish line and tried my best to keep smiling all the way there.

thank you to everyone who showed me so much love and support throughout this incredibly hard summer and on race day. especially my @bandit @run @chingonasrunchicago_ @ethostrainingchi and gatos fam. y’all got me to that finish line and i’ll never forget it.

now, it’s time to rest. maybe for a long time. 💕

If I were to choose just one outfit to describe and represent myself. This would be it 💁🏼‍♀️
