More than half of the UK’s traditional crafts are now at risk of disappearing. That’s 165 of the 285 assessed in Heritage Crafts’ 2025 Red List, from bobbin lace making to glove making to thatching. The reassuring bit: most of these skills aren’t gone. They’re just in very few, very skilled hands. And there’s something genuinely grounding about watching someone do one thing slowly and beautifully. So we’re starting Meet The Makers, a new series of stories and films spotlighting the craftspeople keeping these skills alive, across the UK and (hopefully) beyond. Kilt makers, silk weavers, lace crafters, and whoever you tell us about next. Where should we start? Comment the craft you’d most like us to explore, or tag a maker you think deserves the spotlight. Extra points if they work out of a shed. #MeetTheMakers #HeritageCrafts #BritishCraft #Craftsmanship #GroundedMagazine
