Heyy Kumo kuzo ata? (How you doing in Creole) Here is a picture of a Palenquera. A Palenque woman of Colombia. San Basilio de Palenque is a diásporan community in Colombia, the first free town in Colombia. Located in Mahates Bolivar, south of Cartagena. The meaning of palenque is walled city.

Initially this was where Africans escaped to in the mountains. The town was founded by escapee Domingo Benkos Bioho. Palenqueros speak Spanish Bantu which is influenced by Kikongo language of Angola and Congo. This is the only Spanish Creole language that exists. In the town they operate by a system called ma kaugro there are no police the elders are the guards and uphold order.

When visiting Cartagena in Colombia you will see these women from Palenque selling fruit. Being that I paint Ticuna symbols which is a tribe in Colombia I thought why not highlight the beautiful Africanas in Colombia and share some info.
Currently there is unrest protests serious uproar in Colombia due to discontent with the govt/ their president. Wishing all the power to the people for justice and what they deserve. ✌🏾❣️💋
