2,000 candles in the shape of Vacheron Constantin’s Maltese Cross on the steps of The Met’s Great Hall.

The beginning of an exquisite evening hosted by Vacheron Constantin and The Met in the Temple of Dendur — celebrating the culmination of their inaugural Artisan Residency Program.

That gallery can be filled with complicated decor. This night was about the opposite — the drama of the handmade.

Three new works unveiled under 2,000-year-old stone — Aspen Golann’s monumental VESSEL, Ibrahim Said’s SHAPING TIME, and Joy Harvey's RUINED SPLENDOUR - BRONZE DIADEM — each born from 18 months of study in The Met’s collection and in Vacheron’s workshops in Geneva.

A night built on one metaphor layered on another: the handmade precision of the watches, to the artists in residency, to the hands that carved the Temple itself, so many centuries ago.

An extraordinary night of details, precision, artistry. In this age of uber fast digital advances, the slow triumphs of the hand and heart must be celebrated as well.

Love this week 🩷

Walk, observe, feel.🎧📖🏓
Pass through streets, weave through crowds, and find your own center.
Some voices fade with the wind; some beliefs settle deep within time.
Long is the road, but every step brings us closer.
