Journalist Richa Parashar, who says she is three months pregnant, has accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of pulling her during the INDIA bloc’s march towards the Supreme Court in Delhi on October 12.

The march was organised amid the Opposition’s campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition leaders have questioned the Election Commission’s handling of voter lists and demanded action over alleged “vote chori”.

According to Parashar, she was inside the Supreme Court premises waiting to record Gandhi’s response as he exited. She said she extended her microphone towards him but withdrew it after people gestured at her to move it away. When she noticed other media personnel continuing to record, she extended her microphone again.

Parashar alleged that Gandhi grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her forward. She further claimed that his security personnel pushed her, causing her to fall down the stairs. She said her cameraman was also elbowed and fell during the commotion.

The journalist said she suffered injuries and her phone screen was damaged. She was subsequently taken to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where she disclosed her pregnancy and underwent medical examinations. Hospital authorities said she was admitted as a precaution and examined by medical specialists.

The BJP criticised Gandhi over the allegations, while Congress leaders rejected them as politically motivated propaganda. Congress also questioned Parashar’s account and said the circulating video did not clearly establish that Gandhi pushed or pulled her.

The allegations have triggered a political controversy, with the incident remaining disputed.
