Not getting married on the normal timeline might be the most punk thing you can do. I’ve been engaged for years and I’m in no rush, and every time I say that people look at me like something’s wrong. It’s not. Somewhere along the way we all got handed this one path, the relationship escalator, and we step on it without ever asking if we actually want where it goes. I have so much respect for the people who get off it. The ones with a kid and no certificate. The ones engaged for a decade and happy. The platonic life partners building a whole life with no romance in it at all. And yeah, getting to choose is a privilege a lot of people don’t have, which is exactly why it’s worth saying out loud. Not getting married, relationship escalator, long engagement, alternative relationships, choosing not to get married, platonic life partners, marriage and patriarchy, questioning marriage, engaged not married, alt relationship takes #altculture #alternativerelationships #longengagement #relationships #altgirlsofig
