@nycmarathon was an absolute dream ☁️

Lots more about today to come soon, but for now I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who supported us throughout this journey but especially today. We saw so many friends and family out on the course today that you all made New York City feel like home.

A special shoutout to my parents, Por-Por, and sister who trekked ALL over the city just to see us run by for a few seconds, to all of our @clarendonrunclub & DC fitness community friends who traveled up for the race, to my local NYC friends & family who came out to cheer us on, and to the Internet friends I found on the subway, in the start village, and around the course today.

This truly is THE greatest city in the world. I love you guys and I love New York - now time to go celebrate!

One month since I quit Taekwon-Do.

I thought I’d be itching to train by now. Honestly, I’m still tired.

I stepped away because the environment had stopped feeling safe for me, mentally and physically. I was burnt out, and I needed space to work out what my relationship with Taekwon-Do and the Taekwon-Do community could look like again.

I’ve slept a lot. The stress and ostracism is still there, and I haven’t found the energy or desire to return to my own training yet. After nearly 30 years, that feels strange.

But alongside that, I’ve enjoyed having spare time again. Reading, being creative, exploring ideas and spending time with people without always being the person organising everything.

And I’ve realised how much my WMA community has my back. When you’re used to being the coach and supporting everyone else, receiving that support yourself means a great deal.

I’m still struggling with some of it. I’m also enjoying parts of life I hadn’t made enough room for.

There’s no return date to announce. For now, I’m grateful for that room—and for the people helping me feel more like myself.
