One month since I quit Taekwon-Do.

I thought I’d be itching to train by now. Honestly, I’m still tired.

I stepped away because the environment had stopped feeling safe for me, mentally and physically. I was burnt out, and I needed space to work out what my relationship with Taekwon-Do and the Taekwon-Do community could look like again.

I’ve slept a lot. The stress and ostracism is still there, and I haven’t found the energy or desire to return to my own training yet. After nearly 30 years, that feels strange.

But alongside that, I’ve enjoyed having spare time again. Reading, being creative, exploring ideas and spending time with people without always being the person organising everything.

And I’ve realised how much my WMA community has my back. When you’re used to being the coach and supporting everyone else, receiving that support yourself means a great deal.

I’m still struggling with some of it. I’m also enjoying parts of life I hadn’t made enough room for.

There’s no return date to announce. For now, I’m grateful for that room—and for the people helping me feel more like myself.

You have done a brave thing in walking away after so many years. You have to look after yourself first. The reasons behind it are personal to you and you alone. If from what I've read it sounds like the knuckle dragging toxic shit is still going on. I'm a WT practitioner and I walked away from a NGB for reasons I will not share publicly as that is not the place for it. But one I will share is I am a man of principles (I have many faults n flaws) but I will not let some things get swept under the carpet nor will I be someone's patsy. For your own inner peace and mental welfare do through your poomsae in private, have you thought about going independent? set up a club of your own away from what has been troubling you? just do it for the art no completions (I don't do them can't be arsed with the bullshit) you have too much knowledge and your skills could be passed on to a new generation. Look after your inner peace and I do hope you come back to the martial art in your own time and in your own way 🙏🙏🙏

You have to remember the spirit of the person inside that dobuk. The soul which moves with grace and spirit. I had to stop after somone tore my acl from the bone in a tournament. They actually disabled me. I’ve gone back, thought about the soul and spirit that drives the movement. That’s the most beautiful thing. Take time, remember your spirit, your soul, and then the movement. Much love. Ps. You inspire myself and my daughter.

You do Taekwondo for yourself, not the Taekwondo community ❤️

How long did you train for? I recently opted to step away (at least for now) instead of testing for my next belt

I don't know if it's have to do with men clowning you , because I remember one time you showed comments and I felt very disgusted of how many men sexualized you. Same thing with other martial arts woman I follow , nasty comments.

Let it go for too long, it'll be difficult to return. My joints and muscles will not loosen up. Returned for almost half a year after nearly twenty years

Maybe switch to running to keep the muscles going and let other muscles heal. Make sure vitamin levels are good if you are still feeling tired. I'm taking K2 bone restore vitamins and I'm 48. They do help.
