@thebricktv is home to a masterpiece — Eve’s Bayou is streaming now. 👁️🧱
“The summer I killed my father, I was ten years old.” One of the greatest opening lines in film history — and it pulls you into a Louisiana story of memory, secrets, and a family unraveling that you do not forget.
This isn’t just a classic. It’s a landmark. Kasi Lemmons’ directorial debut was named the BEST film of 1997 by Roger Ebert, became the highest-grossing independent film of the year, and stands as one of the finest films a Black woman ever directed. Period. 🖤
And the cast? Untouchable. A young @itsjurneesmollett carrying the whole film at 10. @meagangood as Cisely. @samuelljackson in one of his finest, most haunting performances. Lynn Whitfield, Debbi Morgan, and the legendary Diahann Carroll as the voodoo priestess. Southern Gothic, Creole mysticism, and a cast of our greatest actresses at their peak.
If you’ve never seen it, this is the sign. If you have, you already know it hits different every single time. This is the kind of cinema we exist to protect.

Thought I’d share one of my archive folders. I have about 10 of these now filled with all sorts of stuff collected over the years - all those things that have no functional use, but are too good to throw away.

A lot of things are from my travels (I love a souvenir), flea markets, antique stores, eBay, charity shops, notes/gifts from friends, trash found on the floor, packaging from sweet shops, items purchased from peers etc etc

Everything here is organised as it was found so it’s more like collected memories than a proper archive. Maybe one day I’ll organise everything more “professionally” but tbh I like how unrelated things can spark new ideas and it suits how my brain works, going from one curiosity to anotherrrrrr

Anyway, I love these folders sm.. nice to have somewhere to put the boxes of stuff collected over the years. Can highly recommend starting one, although I’m sure many artists have their own versions already :))))

President Donald Trump on Friday opened the door for new White House press secretary Katie Zacharia to step down just days after getting the job.

Trump said he had just told Zacharia, “If I were you, I’d reconsider.”

Zacharia has faced criticism since Monday when she led a shaky first press briefing. She also has faced scrutiny about her legal background.

In October 2022, a lottery winner in Nanning, China showed up to claim a massive 219 million yuan jackpot — roughly $30 million — while completely disguised in a bright yellow cartoon costume.

The man, who identified himself only as “Mr. Li,” said the disguise wasn’t just about keeping his identity hidden from the public. He reportedly hadn’t even told his wife or child about the win. His reasoning? He worried that suddenly knowing they were wealthy could make them feel superior to others and cause them to stop working or studying as hard.

Li had apparently been playing the same seven numbers for years simply because he liked how they looked. This time, he purchased 40 tickets using the exact same combination — and all 40 won, with each ticket worth approximately 5.48 million yuan.

Before hitting the jackpot, Li said his biggest lottery win had only been a few dozen yuan, and his family had never paid much attention to his habit.

There was one potential complication with keeping the fortune secret: because he was married, Chinese marital-property rules could potentially give his wife rights to part of the winnings, meaning a jackpot this large might not stay hidden forever.
