Ari Fletcher Faces Backlash Over Voting Comments, Makes One Thing Clear: “I Am NOT a MAGA Supporter”

Blogged by: Grace L.

Ari Fletcher is defending herself against accusations that she supports Donald Trump’s MAGA movement after her comments about voting and politics sparked criticism online. The social media personality addressed the controversy on Monday, October 26, making it clear that her decision to avoid political conversations publicly should not be mistaken for supporting Trump or discouraging people from voting.

The backlash followed remarks Fletcher reportedly made during a recent livestream. Fletcher was asked whether she planned to participate in the upcoming midterm elections and expressed frustration with viewers bringing politics into her space.
“Don’t bring that [expletive] over here. Don’t talk to me about it…I don’t care,” she said during the stream.

Her response prompted questions about her political beliefs, with some social media users interpreting her unwillingness to discuss voting as indifference toward issues affecting the Black community.

Fletcher eventually addressed those assumptions directly in a lengthy statement posted to X.

“I never said people shouldn’t vote. I actually believe voting is very important, and I exercise my right to vote.”

She went on to explain that her reluctance to participate in political discussions has been a longstanding personal boundary rather than a position she adopted during the current election cycle.

“I’ve been on the internet for 15 years, and I’ve never used my platform to discuss politics because I know exactly how those conversations go online.”

According to her statement, she participates in elections but does not believe that participation requires her to publicly debate candidates, policies, or personal political beliefs.

Fletcher further explained that the phrase causing much of the controversy had been taken beyond its intended meaning.

“When I said I don’t care, I wasn’t referring to voting or the issues affecting our communities. I just don’t care to engage in political debates on social media.”

TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS.

I had back surgery at 17.

I didn’t start strength training until I was 41. And with a family history of osteoporosis, building strong bones has become incredibly important to me.

I remember my grandmother suffering from horrible back pain as she got older. Eventually, she needed surgery, but her osteoporosis was so severe that her bones were too soft for the operation.

Watching her struggle made a lasting impression on me, and I knew I wanted to do everything I could to protect my own bone health.

I was the second-youngest person my surgeon had ever operated on, but it wasn’t until I turned 41 that I started lifting weights consistently.

Over the last several years, I’ve worked hard to increase my muscle and bone mass through progressive strength training. For the past two years, I’ve also incorporated jumping.

Recently, I paid for a DEXA scan to see how my bones were doing after years of lifting and jumping.

And I’m pretty happy with what I found.
I sent my results to my friend and collaborator, Dr. Jocelyn Wittstein, and she had this to say:
“This is excellent. You can see that all of the lifting you do has a larger effect on the lumbar spine than the femoral neck region, which is typical, but you are so far away from osteopenia that this is an excellent result.”

One important note: my scans were done at different facilities, and different scanners can produce different results. That’s why it’s best to compare DEXA scans using the same facility and scanner.

So, what should you take away from my experience?

1. Progressive strength training is foundational for bone health.

You need to progressively challenge your muscles and skeleton with resistance training.

2. Impact training can provide an additional stimulus.

For women who are appropriate candidates, jumping and landing drills can complement strength training. But your muscles, tendons, feet and ankles need to be prepared first.
If jumping isn’t appropriate for you, strength training is still an important tool for supporting bone health.

3. Fuel your body.
Adequate food, protein, and calcium all matter. Chronic under-fueling can compromise your ability to build and maintain muscle and bone.
