Celebrating Dia de Muertos at the Flatiron North Plaza 🌼💀 🇲🇽 🌺

Earlier today (October 28) Día de Muertos was celebrated at the Flatiron North Plaza with a vibrant community altar, Mexican folkloric dances, live music, sugar skull decorating, face painting, and colorful papel picado! Organized by the Flatiron Nomad Partnership @flatironny Dance performances by the amazing @calpullimexicandance 💃

This year’s programming will center around Twenty Petal Flower (Slide 2), a newly commissioned, site-specific community altar created through a cross-cultural collaboration between Mestiz Studio, founded by artist and designer Daniel Valero in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Brooklyn-based Powerhouse Arts. @powerhouse_arts @mestizmx

Not so lucky this time. 😅

這次沒那麼幸運.

This Halloween we’re making soup inside a pumpkin while dressed as a family of clowns. 🤡

Recipe
A large pumpkin about 10inch in diameter and height
3 medium carrots
3 stalks of celery
2 cobs of corn
2 medium garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp minced ginger
2 bone in skin on chicken thighs and 3 full chicken wings roasted at 400f for 30 minutes
4 cups chicken broth
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper to taste

Brush the outside of the pumpkin with olive oil and bake for 2.5-3 hours at 400F.

For a smoother blended soup, you can remove the chicken and corn from the soup and add in 1/4 cup of heavy cream, then using a spoon you can scrape some of the pumpkin flesh into the soup and blend with an immersion blender until smooth.

If we ever make this again, I would roast the celery and carrots together with the chicken to soften them up more so they blend more smoothly at the end. I would also add in half an onion, small diced and a tablespoon of honey at the end to bring out the pumpkin flavor more.

My mom made this dress. She loves Viking music as much as I do.⚔️🖤

Performing “BRENNR ENN” from my first album AEYSA. The first batch of CDs ships soon. Still available at aeysa.com/shop 💿

The necklace I’m wearing is my favorite. I wear it all the time, and it’s available on my website too. Only 15 left, and I’m not sure it will be restocked.

Thank you so much for all your support.
