The Act of Waiting
Site-specific installation
Crato, PT, 2024

Nowadays, waiting is something that is avoided and labeled as inefficient. It requires patience and time, space for idleness. It is an inbetween-state, an empty gap that modern societies try to bridge and fill. But what if it is not filled? What if the gap stays empty and we just wait and take a moment to enjoy the fact of being, in transition, out-of-place, and see what happens around us?
Within the hybrid festival site, constituted between wild and human-made landscapes, between non-human and human actors, between forest, lake and sub-/counter-culture, a threshold space might be established to celebrate the act of waiting. A space in which different urban and natural elements fuse and encounter each other. The act of waiting is particularly highlighted in this first arrangement of objects consisting of a bus stop and a street lantern. Evoking occasional “irritations” in the natural environment, they question the object‘s meaning and reveal their sculptural aesthetic potential by appearing „out-of-place“. The way the objects are shaping a space, they frame and highlight the landscape they are embedded in and engage with, to eventually shift the visitors perspective.
