We are slowly coming down from another incredible experience here in Retie. Third place in the Backyard Ultra Team World Championship, while still holding on to the World Record we established back in 2024. We didn't quite reach our ultimate goal of defending our title, but we got something in return that simply cannot be measured in yards. Two athletes, two friends, going above and beyond. Staying together when times got rough for either one of them. No mind games, no spotlight-hogging, no shoutingโ€”just pure friendship and camaraderie. Some might view that as weakness, but in the Backyard world we love, that is the ultimate strength. Truthfully, we are a bit worried about the direction the sport has been heading lately. A world where the narrativeโ€”true or notโ€”becomes more important than the actual performance is not a world we want to be a part of. When Ivo and Merijn finally finished their epic run, Team Belgium was still standing there in full force, showing once again what the word TEAM truly means. And no, there still isn't an "I" in it. This morning, two genuine people met in the kitchen, quietly and modestly reflecting on what happened over the past few days. No bragging, no attitude. Just the exact same two guys we knew last week, whom we are so proud to call our friends. We might not have prolonged our title, but we hope we've shown the world that the values of the "Old School" Backyard still mean everything. ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿฆ‰ Team Belgium, we are so very proud of you all!!!
