Two years ago, I probably couldn’t have picked a dahlia out of a lineup, and here I am digging up an entire field of them. 😂 Some might think digging them up is sad, but I think it’s incredible to see the roots that were growing underneath it all. Everyone focuses on the flowers, but have you ever looked at a tuber? Isn’t it wild that flowers can grow out of a little lump that looks like a potato? My fairy garden mother, @thefloweringfarmhouse, flew in to help me close out my first season as a dahlia micro farmer (yes, I’m claiming the title)! Swipe through the whole process with us: cutting the still blooming field down, digging every clump up, washing off the dirt, and cutting the tubers apart, which is where we found that what I planted had easily tripled while I was busy admiring the blooms. 💐 My life has forever changed from all the time spent with my hands in the soil. My brain is so full, but my heart is even fuller, and I’m fully and wildly in awe of the way nature and its cycles work. Jen, thank you for flying in and for making me feel like I know what I’m doing out there. I kind of do now?! 🥰
