I honor your memory, Damion E Victor. Today, 2 weeks since your passing, on this day 6 years ago we put up 29 & 30 respectively in a game that marked our last season playing basketball together. The surreal ALS diagnoses that soon followed from a slight twitch in your shooting arm was a cruel and unfair destiny you fought bravely with a warriors spirit.
My heart is with your family in mourning. Losing the ability to be an active father in your sons lives these past 6 years was devastating I know.
Over two decades of memories weigh heavy on the depth of the bond we shared. The birth of your boys. Celebrating holidays. Riding motorcycles. Basketball. Wrestling in your kitchen. Eating guláš. The days we shared were countless, but the difficult ones you needed me always mattered. You called me your brother and the echo of those words, now, pierces me to my core.
Taking care of you this past year was a privilege that I hold dear to my heart and I will always remember the moments of laughter and reminiscing. I know you suffered a great deal, as does your family, but now you are free.
It’s with tough love I say farewell to you brother.
