Bonus Episode 🇧🇧 Throughout this year I’ve been reflecting a lot about how lucky I am not only as a Barbadian, but more specifically as a Barbadian woman, to exist today. To exist in 2026, in a Barbados where we see that it is possible for women to reach the highest heights. We see that it is possible for us to do the things that our ancestors could only have dreamed about. Amid the mundanity of our everyday lives, we might not realize or even fully appreciate the magnitude of this era yet but we have quite literally written our names on history’s page. Not only are we the FIRST set of Barbadians to know a Barbados with a woman as Prime Minister but we are also the FIRST set of Barbadians ever to experience Barbados as a Republic. No matter what, for eons to come, this very Barbados and these very moments that we are living in today are forever etched as a significant chapter in our nation’s story. Maybe, in 2126 when future generations are celebrating 160 years of Independence and 105 years as a Republic, someone will be crocheting our National Heroes and there’ll be many more than 2 women on the list :) I say all this to say, what a privilege it is to exist alongside Barbados’ first female Prime Minister ever and to witness herstory being made every day. To our dearest Aunty Mia, Happy Birthday! 🎈 @mamottley Sincerely, Abigail Gordon #60and5 #roadto60 #Barbados #MiaMottley #ofcknot
