long story long, as we approach 6 months since my final surgery, I thought it was time I properly introduced you all to the newest member of the family, Bucky. Bucky (yep like the winter soldier) is a @nalumedical Peripheral Nervous System Neurostimulator which consists of a microchip implanted into my left shoulder’s suprascapular nerve, wires that deliver electrical pulses, and an external therapy disc that powers the whole system. This whole system works together to produce electrical currents that help regulate the chronic pain caused by my cliff ✨misadventure✨ in 2016. And let me just tell you, this little guy has completely changed my life. After 6 years of intense pain, I am now virtually pain free. I went from 5-7 days a week being consumed by pain to having a day or two a month where the pain returns. Most days, the worst pain I feel is moderate discomfort. It took a while for me to get to this place post-surgery, but as time goes on I am only getting better and learning what works for me. The battle to get this implant approved took 2 years but I am forever grateful for a team of doctors and Nalu reps who never stopped trying. (And lowkey honored to be the very first Nalu recipient at UCLA Health 🥇). It’s nice to be at a place in this journey that doesn’t feel like running a marathon uphill. There is still healing to do, but luckily now I have a little robot buddy who’s (literally) got my back. And hey, at least I get to say im the only person who will *actually* leave this pandemic with a microchip 🫢
