The Mercy’s 🖤 Drawn from the Victorian London, the Mercy’s are cut from black velvet and take their name from Mercy Pecksniff in Charles Dickens’ Martin Chuzzlewit. At the heart of the pieces is Victorian “jet jewellery” Black glass beadwork that became popular throughout the nineteenth century. Jet became synonymous with mourning dress, with its deep black finish and intricate carved and beaded details. We referenced this throughout the Mercy’s with tonal black glass beadwork, hand applied against the velvet to catch the light and give the pieces their distinctive texture. The Mercy Corset and Skirt are joined by the Mercy Bolero, with beaded tassels and sculptural shoulders, and their matching friend the Mercy Dress, finished with an embellished cravat and jet inspired beadwork.
