Four Nigerian-Americans elected in US midterm election Four Nigerian Americans won races in the November 3 US midterm elections, securing state and local offices in Maryland, Texas, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. A fifth candidate, Georgia state Representative Segun Adeyina, was leading in his race, which remained uncalled as votes were counted. In Maryland, Democrat Will Jawando defeated Republican Esther Wells in the race for Montgomery County executive. Jawando, the son of a Nigerian father and an American mother, served on the Montgomery County Council before the election. In Texas, Democrat Junior Ezeonu, 27, won the District 101 seat in the state House of Representatives. He defeated incumbent Chris Turner in the Democratic primary and was the only candidate on the general election ballot after no Republican entered the race. According to his campaign biography, Ezeonu was born in Onitsha, Anambra State, and moved to Texas at the age of two. In Washington, DC, Democrat Oye Owolewa won an at-large seat on the District of Columbia Council. Owolewa, a pharmacist whose parents immigrated from Nigeria’s Kwara and Osun states, previously served as the district’s elected shadow representative, a role that advocates for DC statehood without carrying voting rights in Congress. In Pennsylvania, Democrat Carol Kazeem retained her District 159 seat in the state House of Representatives, defeating Republican Michael Bannon. In Georgia, Adeyina, a Nigerian-born Democrat, was seeking re-election to the state House of Representatives in District 110 against Republican Charles Lollar.

Behind the effortless optimism of the great American songbook lies the rigorous mind of a classical architect. Written by Burt Bacharach with lyrics by Hal David for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” won the Academy Award and became a global standard. While it sounds effortlessly breezy, Bacharach—who studied classical composition under French master Darius Milhaud—built the song on subtle rhythmic shifts, unexpected bar lengths, and delicate harmonic resolutions. In March 1970, on the set of This Is Tom Jones, Bacharach joined the Welsh superstar for an intimate, acoustic performance. Accompanied only by legendary session guitarist Big Jim Sullivan on a 12-string guitar, Tom Jones leaves behind his big brass arrangements to sing in a warm, relaxed baritone. Moments later, Bacharach ambles in and sits beside him, delivering the verses with the soft, vulnerable voice of a composer who knows the exact emotional weight of every note. More than half a century later, this broadcast preserves a masterclass in songwriting: a reminder that the greatest music requires no studio bombast to touch the heart. #BurtBacharach #TomJones #RaindropsKeepFallinOnMyHead #HalDavid #MusicHistory
Today is November 4, Mikkel Nielsen disappeared through time 7 years ago on this day. His disappearance sets the events of ‘DARK’ in motion, and a complex mystery involving four interconnected families in a small German town named Winden unravels, stretching across generations where the past, present, and future are so intertwined that it becomes impossible to tell where the beginning ends and the end begins. One of the greatest television series ever made. How would you rate ‘DARK’ out of 10?
