Driving around the world 📍Sokcho, South Korea

I’m on controlled substances for my chronic illnesses & ADHD, and because of years of medical abuse and gaslighting, I feel like I’m doing something criminal every time I take my medication, request a refill, call the pharmacy, do a drug screen, or pick up my prescription.

I constantly feel like I’m doing something wrong when I never asked for this life to begin with. I never asked to be tossed around by so many doctors that prescribed me medications they promised would help, becoming dependent on them, having to manage getting off of them responsibly so I don’t end up in the ER from withdrawals… and trying to find someone else that can actually help me.
I’ve been put in so many situations where I’ve had to do all of this myself without a doctor’s help because they don’t want to touch “complex cases” like me.
What’s frustrating is… I know I’m complex. I also know that medically, I have good compared to so many other women.

I don’t have answers. Because I know why regulations exist to keep the public safe. But I don’t think it’s a coincidence that women are the primary victims of this kind of medical treatment. It’s almost like… it wasn’t built for women to begin with.

Managing lifelong painful illnesses is hard enough. Adding systemic shame onto those who are already struggling is the real criminal act. Not patients trying to access care that was prescribed to them.
