The Knot Exclusive: They lost their wedding venue less than 48 hours before saying “I do.” 💔 What happened next was a reminder of what weddings are really about.

When Alexandra Hensler and Justice Shepard learned a court order would shut down their dream venue in Sicily, their wedding planner and nearly every vendor rallied to pull off an entire wedding in less than 24 hours. “We were at the beach in Sicily when our planners called and told us to sit down. A few things ran through my head. Maybe there was an issue with the ceremony site, maybe we’d lost a vendor. Nothing could have prepared me to hear that we’d lost our venue less than 48 hours before our wedding,” Hensler said. “A court order was shutting the venue down starting on the morning of our wedding day. It was completely out of their control, and they handled it the best they could and were so helpful. Together we landed on a plan: Since we had the venue for two days, we could move the wedding up a day, so we could still have it there before the venue was officially closed. That meant pulling off an entire wedding in less than 24 hours.”

Hensler shared the words from her lead wedding planner @kaynorthrup the night they got the news: “It’s not going to be the wedding you planned for, but it will still be wonderful and so special.” And it was so special: A day filled with even more love, unforgettable memories and a team of pros who went above and beyond to make it happen. Their favorite memories were exchanging vows surrounded by loved ones, celebrating with an ocean jump at the end of the night, and spending an unexpected bonus day in Sicily together, including a farewell dinner capped by a rainbow and a room full of love. At the end of the weekend, Hensler said: “I told Kay that she was right. It wasn’t the wedding we planned for. It was even better.” 🤍

Their biggest takeaway for couples navigating the unexpected? “Choose a team you trust and connect with, because when something goes wrong, those relationships are everything.”
