As I get older and my relationship with astrology evolves, I find myself yearning for a retrograde moment because it brings me closer to what is real, what is meant, and awakens me to all the ways I need to shift in order to realign. When planets are direct, we’re able to move, move, move. Go, go, go. And then there’s a moment of pause. This one’s it. And as Venus begins her fall into the underworld, she will make some harsh transits to Pluto, to Mars, to Chiron. It’s almost as if the stars are conspiring to strip away everything we’ve been using to avoid the truth. The desires that aren’t really ours. The relationships we’ve outgrown. The wounds we thought we healed. The ways we’ve confused attachment with love, intensity with intimacy, and being wanted with being valued. Venus doesn’t descend into the underworld to punish us. She descends to remember what is worth carrying back. So maybe this isn’t a season for forcing clarity or rushing toward the next thing. Maybe it’s a season for allowing what has been buried to rise. For noticing what aches, what calls, what no longer fits. Retrogrades remind me that realignment rarely looks like forward motion. Sometimes we have to go back. Sometimes we have to go under. Sometimes we have to sit in the dark long enough so that we can allow ourselves to feel our truth. & only then we can see what was there all along.
