Paris Protests See Designer Stores Targeted by Looters.

Stores in Paris and other French cities have been targeted amid nationwide demonstrations on Saturday 17 October. Footage and imagery has emerged of Arcteryx, Louis Vuitton, Apple, Celine, Hermes, Dior as well as prominent department store Galleries Lafayette being targeted by looters.

The demonstrations grew out of student protests over conditions in schools and teacher shortages, expanding to include anger over rising living costs and deteriorating public services. Students were joined by trade unions and other demonstrators across France.

We visited the Nova Festival memorial and were completely overcome with emotion. Row after row of plaques, each one a face, a name, a life so brutally taken. Seeing how many there were, then stopping to read their stories, broke our hearts.

These beautiful young people had come simply to dance, laugh with their friends and celebrate life.

We met a survivor and heard his harrowing experience.

We left carrying their stories in our hearts. 💔

HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH to my black Kings and Queens✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾💫

The event was very timely.

At certain points this year and more specifically the last few days prior to the event, I’ve really felt the heaviness of being a black woman in today’s world.

Being a black woman is a blessing and I would choose it in every lifetime

-but it comes with struggles that no one would ever be able to understand or comprehend if they weren’t in the same shoes us, especially in this space.

Micro-aggressions in the workplace, being treated differently to our non black counterparts, being mis-labelled “intimidating”, “scary”, having a lower threshold for compassion and empathy from others, people deciding “what we are”, even before experiencing us, is a DAILY struggle.

And it gets heavy, but all of that could never cloud my JOY and APPRECIATION for my culture, for my heritage and for my people. EVER.

And to all my black brothers and sisters, the media might not represent us, brands might not, the algorithm might not but that shouldn’t stop us from being LOUD & PROUD of our BLACKNESS💫

Thank you to @gymshark for hosting this event and giving us a space to showcase and celebrate our #strengthinculture
