Green hydrogen vs. fossil fuels

‘The transportation sector… they can’t use electricity. This is where green hydrogen really has a fantastic role to play’ — Enapter co-founder @vaiteacowan breaks down how valuable green hydrogen can become a source of renewable energy (via @tedtalks)

Hydrogen, while promising, poses significant logistical and climatic challenges. Leakage and insufficient overall efficiency call into question its viability as an ecological solution. Indeed, its climatic impact could be more harmful than that of CO2, while storage and transport problems persist. Other alternatives are preferable. The fascination with hydrogen creates illusions. The real challenge lies in the logistics chain associated with its storage and transport. The laws of physics cannot be circumvented, and hydrogen, being the smallest molecule, poses significant problems. Concerns about excess CO2 and the need for decarbonization are legitimate, but hydrogen is a perfect illustration of a false solution that is not climate-friendly. Hydrogen lost to the environment is a gas 200 times more polluting than CO2. The environmental benefit that is often evoked is lost through leakage. A quality hydrogen tank empties in less than a month. Although a tank may be 99% efficient, a single 0.5% leak completely negates any climatic benefit, worsening hydrogen's impact on the climate. It could be argued that hydrogen could be used for batteries, but this idea is not viable. Turning electricity into hydrogen and then back into electricity makes no sense at all, creating an ultimately disappointing yield. It would be wiser to give priority to electric batteries, which continue to evolve towards reduced climate impact and have a recyclable chain. Other technologies, such as inertial and cryogenic storage, offer viable alternatives. It is therefore advisable to abandon hydrogen, which is proving to be both a financial drain and a deceptive solution that exacerbates the pressure on the climate. This "solution" is often tinged with greenwashing for those who see only appearances. The safety issues associated with hydrogen should not be downplayed. Approximately 1-2% of hydrogen comes from electrolysis, while the vast majority comes from hydrocarbon cracking, a method not exempt from CO2 release. As far as energy density is concerned, the idea of using hydrogen for aeronautical applications is hardly reassuring. At high pressures, t

More stable more clean and easy to generate is nuclear, but media has created a scare among people and here we are.

Question: how is hydrogen molecules separated from oxigênio? With electricity! Tada! The problem is nos the electricity, but how it is produced! When USA stops using coal, the problems will end!

Lol we forget that ships absolutely can run on pure electricity and it's called nuclear power. Wether it's feasible at this point to utulize it on that many ships is a different task.

@ford You guys were making a car using green hydrogen about 13 years ago. I was waiting for you to produce it, so I could purchase it. A perfect, zero problem solution. You had a strong handle on what we should be driving & doing to help the planet. But you bowed out cuz electric cars seemed to be taking over. You folded, you blew it. You could have changed the game 100%. Get back in front of where we should have been & now should be & make those cars.

Hydrogen and only specifically green hydrogen is only a solution for shipping and aviation. Land transport can all be powered by electricity, with significant model shift (plane to train, car to public transport, walkiny, cycling). For shipping and aviation both need significant reduction in usage, increases in efficiency, some shift to electricity for example short sea shipping, and then and only thrn green hydrogen. The latter of which needs to be heavily regulated to ensure ita carbon reduction /displacement.

Why can’t they use electricity? I’m misunderstanding something..
