Teaching your children to be polite and to display manners is part of typical parenting. However, some parents deny children joy because they use granting pleasure to maintain control. Many times adults were taught this from mirroring their own authoritarian parents.

*This example DOES NOT represent all cases of parents denying their children gifts or food*

Declining food is a cultural phenomenon. Across Africa,Asia Middle East and South America belief in the spiritual is real. I'm from Ghana and we are hospitable and careful at the same time. You have to know where to you accept food and where you decline.

Legit does anyone remember when they were a kid and you'd go to someone's house and they'd offer you food and you'd take it and tour mum would say no but it's too late to put it back and now it's awkward for everyone.

My birth giver would always tell me to never ask anything from my friends whenever we had a picnic but would always insist I bring something whenever I was invited.

When my friends would come over my parents would complain after they left everytime about them going through our fridge, I didn't understand because they never took a very long time didnt bother me and they were 7 year olds if it was rude at all there's no way me or them would have known. So I stopped having friends over because they complained about it so often as well as when I went to others houses I never asked for food when I was hungry because I was basically taught this was wrong

So is this not normal? I thought it was normal to not accept anything from anyone other than my mom

I live in the Midwest of the US, and I feel like around here refusing food is actually seen as rude. I think we’d rather you take it and not eat it than not eat at all

I’m from Jamaica and grew up that. However, this is not something I will stop for various reasons other than what’s mentioned in the video.

I have to pass on this one. My kids are not eating food from just anywhere. I teach them to read the vibes and room. Sometimes you go places, see people and don't eat because they are unclean, strangers, or weird times. I'm a fan of bringing your own. A fruit, water, juice and I let them pick a a snack they would like to enjoy in the store so they learn balance with health and treats. Plus I'm caribbean and wickedness is real through food.
