WE DID IT! Together we are rewriting the future for sharks and for the ocean! In a historic victory for these keystone species, 88 countries voted to PROTECT requiem sharks by finally agreeing to take concrete measures to regulate and sustainably manage the global shark trade! This is a monumental step for the protection of marine life.
We are deeply grateful to Panamá and its co-sponsors on the proposal, our partners, fellow non-profits, dedicated scientists, academics, activists, and journalists, artisanal fishers and local communities, our wonderful SeaLegacy ambassadors, our friends at @cites, and our incredible online community who shared and helped to elevate awareness on shark conservation.
This is a pivotal moment not just for sharks, but for the future of all threatened and endangered species on Earth. We have seen an extraordinary outpouring of support for these magnificent apex predators, for wildlife, and for the health of our world’s fragile ecosystems — proof that action is on the rise and nations are stepping up to meet the challenges of a changing planet head on. And we can’t thank YOU enough for joining us!
