Petit récap de ces 3 (intenses) semaines de négos contre le deep sea mining 🧜

On a obtenu de belles victoires d’étapes (non sans nuits blanches mygod c’était intense) mais ce n’est pas terminé.

On va revenir vite, avec plus de pays dans les négos et de nouvelles actions sur tous les continents.

(Mais d’ici là j’annonce je disparais pour dormir 3 semaines d’affilée)

HISTORIC VICTORY!!😍🎉 Norway just decided to NOT open for deep sea mining for 4 years!!

Thank you so much everyone! Earlier this month, Antarctic krill fishers hit their catch limit of 620,000 metric tons early for the second year in a row. Vessels have now been forced to stop and leave the area.
One company, Aker QRILL, is responsible for over 60% of the catch. An ecosystem already disrupted by climate change. A marine protected area that’s not yet been adopted.
We’re here to show what’s really happening: fishing activities hyper-concentrating on wildlife feeding grounds.

La nouvelle est tombée : le quota de 620 000 tonnes de pêche au krill Antarctique a été atteint. Et ce pour la deuxième année consécutive. Les navires ont donc été contraints de quitter la zone.
Une seule entreprise, Aker QRILL, représente plus de 60 % de la pêche dans tout l’océan, alors que l’écosystème déjà fragilisé par le changement climatique et qu’une aire marine protégée n’a toujours pas été adoptée.
On vous montre ce qui se passe réellement : une hyperconcentration de la pêche, exactement là où baleines et manchots viennent se nourrir.

⬇️ On a besoin de vous pour interpeller E.Leclerc, Carrefour et leurs PDG @micheledouardleclerc et @alexandrebompard

Et rendez-vous sur @chilli.app pour leur envoyer massivement des messages qui ont été pré-rédigés pour vous.

On ne lâchera rien tant qu’ils n’auront pas retiré ces produits de leurs rayons, définitivement. by @ansroux

Nouvelles victoires dans la lutte contre le deep sea mining ⬇️

Merci au Malawi, au Kenya et à Madagascar qui deviennent les trois premiers pays africains à s’opposer à cette industrie 🇲🇼🇰🇪🇲🇬

Grâce à eux, on a maintenant 43 pays, soit 1 pays sur 4 à l’Autorité Internationale des Fonds Marins, qui s’opposent au deep sea mining.

New podcast episode now live with ocean researcher and activist Anne-Sophie Roux (@ansroux) - she recently came back from an expedition to Antarctica and has just launched, alongside organisations including @underthepole and @team_malizia, a petition calling on governments around the globe to better protect key foraging habitats for whales, seals, penguins, and seabirds, as well as important underwater ecosystems in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean 🐋🌊🪼

The Southern Ocean is the biggest freshwater reserve on Earth, and one of our main allies in the fight against climate change - as it absorbs 75% of the excess heat generated by human activity.

Through the Antarctic Treaty, Antarctica was designated in the 1960s as a natural reserve devoted to peace and science. And yet, damage is being caused by a few corporations who are plundering it for resources and overfishing 🐟

But there is reason for hope: we have a window to act for Antarctica and just a few weeks ago the European Parliament proposed a five year moratorium on krill fisheries in the Southern Ocean.

Listen to hear more about Anne-Sophie’s expedition, what it was like being in Antarctica, the beautiful underwater forest ecosystems, and also practical tips on what you can do to support the campaign and help protect Antarctica and the many species who call it home.

Nous avons pris en compte toutes vos questions concernant la campagne de plaidoyer menée depuis notre expédition en Antarctique, et nous avons décidé d’y répondre sur ce post ! Si vous avez d’autres questions, n’hésitez pas à les poser en commentaire : nous y répondrons avec plaisir !

Nouvelle victoire pour l’océan au Parlement européen cette semaine, cette fois-ci sur l’exploitation minière des fonds marins ⬇️

Grâce à notre mobilisation, le Parlement européen et la Commission européenne s’étaient déjà positionnés sur le #DeepSeaMining, demandant aux Etats membres de rejoindre le moratoire, comme le consensus scientifique le demande et comme 40 Etats l’ont déjà fait.

Mais cette fois-ci, le Parlement va un peu plus loin : il soutient une action de l’Union européenne pour contrer les plans de The Metals Company et Donald Trump de miner les fonds marins de manière unilatérale.

On vous explique ce que ça change et bien sûr on vous tient au courant de la suite.
