Steve Buscemi has played criminals of various stripes but also a charming barfly and a lonely record collector, summoning both bravado and vulnerability in film after film. With his part as the school principal in Season 2 of “Wednesday,” Buscemi, 68, is hitting a career peak by some measures: The viewership of the current “Addams Family” update has eclipsed that of any other Netflix show. But even while he’s in a mainstream series that celebrates an outsider ethos, he’s remained true to his early indie-film roots, playing a C.I.A. bureau chief in Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine,” out next month and starring John Malkovich, alongside whom Buscemi delivers a performance that’s being lauded as one of his best. “Over the years, I’ve turned down a lot of stuff that made me think, ‘I don’t know that I want to do this kind of character in this script for the people who are doing it,’” Buscemi says. “For me to play a really dark character now, or to play a gangster, the script has to be great.” Tap the link in our bio to read about how Buscemi went from being a firefighter to an actor and how he connects with dark characters.
