Surreal being in Bali! It’s a twilight zone times and trying to be my best me! If it wasn’t for covid we wouldn’t be here and I feel blessed, unease’s with the unknowns/future, sad being away from my parents & friends & my old life. And so many feelings = Highs and Low’s. Surreal!!! Just wanted to share our animal family & our today life and say that I hope we all have a better 2023!! I’m posting on our company page @sewhousela our 2022 please follow. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately. On life, identity, and what it means to start a new chapter.

After 12 years of marriage and a really difficult chapter of my life, I’ve found myself questioning a lot of things, including my relationship with hijab and what it’s become.

Hijab has been part of my identity for so many years. It’s how so many of you have come to know me, and for a long time, it’s also how I’ve known myself.

But something I’ve been trying to make sense of lately is how something that was once so personal and meaningful became intertwined with a period of my life when I was deeply unhappy, even while I was trying to convince myself I was okay.

Somewhere along the way, I feel like my relationship with hijab became less about my own connection with faith and more about an identity I had grown accustomed to carrying through that difficult chapter.

I want to be able to reconnect with hijab one day from a place of love, intention and peace. Not because it’s what’s expected of me, or because it’s all I’ve ever known, but because it’s something I wholeheartedly choose for myself again as part of a new, positive chapter.

And maybe part of starting fresh is allowing myself the space to rediscover that connection.

I still have so much love and respect for hijab and everything it represents. That hasn’t changed.

I don’t have all the answers, and I’m not pretending to. I’ve always shown up as authentic during the course of whole journey and chapters in my life. I’m simply learning that sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to grow, to reflect, and to rediscover parts of ourselves.

I also know my posts might feel a little confusing during this transition. Social media is my work, and it’s how I feed and provide for my two children. They rely on me on all fronts. Some of my content will still feature me in hijab (some shot months before), and some will reflect where I am now. Please give me the space and grace to navigate this hard chapter of my life in my own time, and respect wherever I am in that process. I’m sharing myself with you honestly, whatever stage I’m in. 🤍
