27/12/22 Day 45 - TA NOBO - 499.2 camp spot to a camp site on a bluff above Lake Ohau
The next day, my knee was swollen and quite sore but I had no option but to carry on walking for at least another day and a half. This involved a hike up a valley, over boulder fields, scree slopes, on and on up, until we eventually reached the saddle and the first views of Lake Ohau. We were in no particular rush as we had a cabin booked at Lake Ohau Lodge the following night, so we found a flattish spot and camped for the night just above the bush - we knew what forest/bush is like so left that until the following day. We had bikes booked to cycle the stretch from Lake Ohau Lodge to Tekapo via Twizel along the canal. Cycling is necessary/acceptable as there is no camping allowed along this stretch. I started to realise that my knee wasn’t going to be able to cycle the 90km. We could see the plain of Lake Ohau - so close but so far.
