I did, on July 5. Congestive heart failure. My heart is still in pieces. We were at an extraordinarily wonderful referral hospital in Vermont. Buddy is always with me now. ♥️

I am sitting in a coffee shop in New York City. This place makes me chatty. I think it’s the actual close proximity, all these different people in my face and I want to talk to EVERY. SINGLE. ONE OF THEM. I think we all have this desire to a larger and lesser extent. (Mine being obnoxiously larger) To connect, to see, to be seen. Today what’s making me smile (alone in a crowded coffee shop, already slightly creepy) is analyzing how to do this in a socially acceptable way. I think the 3rd one is the biggest for me. So much of my life/career has been questioning or throttling how much love to show up with and when. I understand it’s not socially acceptable to just run up to a complete stranger, give them a bear hug and say “tell me everything!” But I live on the edge of that being a genuine option at all times…  I have a Big Stupid Heart. When I started writing songs as a kid in the late 1900’s (old) I tried SO HARD to write them with a small cynical heart. I thought I needed to be cooler, sexier (HILARIOUS), that somehow that would give them credibility. I finally developed the courage in my late twenties to just write what I am. Over the past 16 years I’ve released 5 albums and discovered that I am not alone in this condition, shall we call it Bigstupidcardiovasitis? I’ve found there are MILLIONS of you reckless brazenly awkward lovers out there and you’ve sang with me and it’s the great joy of my life. In my studio I have a huge white board. At the beginning of writing this record I wrote in bold bright red, BIG STUPID HEART. I’d see it everyday when I came in and I’d think of all of you. I judge the success of records these days by if it makes people feel seen, connected, and known when they are blasting it in their car. I hope with all of my being that it does that for you. In conclusion. If you see me in a coffee shop let’s chat (hell come give me a hug). If we connect in the profound very intimate artist to listener relationship through this album that’s pretty damn good too. I love you all. MY 6TH STUDIO RECORD BIG STUPID HEART is (drum rollllllll) OUT TODAY!!!
