During the first hours of early voting, voters walking to the polls in Miami Gardens, Florida’s largest majority Black city, were pelted with a caustic message over loudspeakers encouraging them to vote Democratic and against the man aiming to become Florida’s first Black governor. “For governor and lieutenant governor, David Jolly and Gwen Graham. We must have a change in Tallahassee,” a track recorded by a Black Miami-Dade Democratic Party state committeewoman repeated over and over. “Stay away from the coon. You know who it is.” In case you don’t, the man described with a racial slur casting him as a shame to his own race is Byron Donalds, a three-term Republican congressman with Jamaican and Panamanian heritage asking Black voters to do what he did years ago and leave the Democratic Party. He is endorsed by Donald Trump, has spoken out against diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and voted against legislation like the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act, all of which has helped make him unpopular with Black voters — and created a hostile environment among those who do support him. Eight years after another Black man lost the governor’s race to Ron DeSantis by less than 32,000 votes, Black voters in Florida are finding themselves torn and even divided over Byron Donalds’ bid to make history. 🔗 You can read the full story at the link in our bio ✍️: Churchill Ndonwie 📸: Matias Ocner
HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS🎈Thank you to the incredibly kind & gracious staff at the park for making it possible for us to tour every single haunted house! Truly unforgettable night👻🏚️🎢 what is everyone dressing up as tonight?
Away point secured. The work continues.
We’ve had so many DM’s this week asking HOW Sam did this, so here’s exactly how! (And yes, that’s real breast milk!! 🥹❤️) When we found out I was pregnant with our twins, Sam decided she wanted to try something called induced lactation, which is basically the process of getting your body to produce breast milk without ever being pregnant! Here’s how she did it: ▫️ She followed something called the Newman-Goldfarb protocol, which is a method used to induce lactation in non-gestational parents. ▫️ She took prescribed medications, including domperidone, to help stimulate milk production. ▫️ She pumped EVERY 2–3 hours, including overnight! She never went longer than 4 hours without pumping. The dedication was wild!! 🥹 ▫️ Over time, her body started producing breast milk, starting with tiny drops and increasing! ▫️ By the time our twins were born, she was already making milk and was able to breastfeed them right away (we already had a deep freeze full too!) And that’s how our boys ended up being breastfed by the mom who DIDN’T give birth to them! 🥹 One of the coolest parts of our two-mom journey was getting to experience motherhood in such different ways. I carried and gave birth to our twins, and Sam got to experience breastfeeding them! Induced lactation isn’t guaranteed to work for everyone, and milk supply can vary, but it’s pretty incredible that this is even possible! We share this because SO many people have no idea that non-birthing moms, lesbian parents and adoptive parents can sometimes breastfeed too! 🤍 I’m so proud of her for doing this!!!
Don’t make things awkward 😬
