I met Ene during one of the most difficult times in my life. I trusted him, let him in, and he took advantage of my vulnerability. He introduced me to f*ntanyl, c*caine, and m*th. Once I was addicted and dependent on him to get the dr*gs, the physical abuse began. For years, I endured constant abuse, but in October 2024, things escalated for the last time. Ene became increasingly paranoid, accusing me of cheating, dr*gging him, and things I hadn’t done. No matter how much I tried to explain myself, things only got worse. One night, he beat and strangled me so severely that, for the first time, I genuinely feared for my life. The next day, he forced me to photograph my injuries and send them to my family asking for money he intended to spend on dr*gs. Over the following days, his paranoia worsened. He was losing touch with reality, accusing me of things that never happened. I knew something was seriously wrong, but I felt trapped, terrified, and unsure where to turn. I hoped sleep would help. We laid down together and fell asleep. On October 18, 2024, I woke up to him attacking me. I tried to escape, but there was nowhere to go. He threw me around, slammed, kicked, and punched me. I remember falling to my knees, begging him not to kill me. I promised I’d do anything if he’d just stop. Somehow, he did. He let me crawl back into bed, unaware I was internally bleeding to death. For six hours, I drifted in and out of consciousness. Then came the knock that saved my life. Someone was banging on our motel door. Ene was banned from the property, and there was a mandatory protection order against him. Afraid of going to jail, he forced me to answer it.Without that knock, I would have died in that bed next to the man who tried to kill me. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but for me, it’s also the anniversary of the most terrifying day of my life. Ene spent years convincing me that I needed him, that I couldn’t survive without him. Two years later, I’m living proof of just how wrong he was.I’m not just alive. I’m healing, growing, rebuilding, and thriving. 💜 #domesticviolenceawareness #dvsurvivor #wedorecover

Comment FERN for my guide on how to overwinter your ferns! This is what we do to overwinter our ferns. If you don’t want a mess cut them back! If you want them to keep their shape don’t cut them back. Bring them indoors before the first frost and keep temps above 38 degress. Kimberly, Boston, and Macho ferns will come right back in spring. Give them bright light to keep growing or a dim garage to rest, keep soil moist to the touch all winter long, and keep them cozy away from drafts.
